Today had a tad bit of a soggy start but in no time the clouds had cleared and made way for a beautiful day, one could mistake it for a Summers day with warm above water temperatures and the sun shining down on us as well as the fact that the sharks were in the shallows! The first trip had a slow start with an hour wait for the sharks to arrive but patience is key and good things come to those that wait and the good things today were sharks! The first sighted was a large female we know well from the Island, approximately 4.0m in length and with a few parasite patches. It looks like this female utilises both the shallows and the island when she is in the area and is always a great sight to see, today though she didn’t stick around, made a few passes and then moved on, no worries though as we had some new additions arrive! This included a 3.0m individual easily recognisable by the tip of its caudal or tail fin missing. The second trip of the day started off well with a juvenile White shark spotted as we approached our cage. This little individual stuck around for approximately 20 minutes before disappearing and leading us to move spots twice. Third diving spot proved a charm with two seperate individuals present including a male approximately 3.0m in length and showing some fantastic behaviour around the boat. We also spotted a Short tailed stingray for a few moments as it came gliding up to check out our wooden seal decoy, not too tasty for the stingray, it retreated to make way for some more shark activity! Welcome back to Gary, who joined us on board Slashfin 3 years ago, always great to see a return shark fan! A warm and wonderful day out on the water…
