This morning saw some winter like conditions with overcast skies, a chill in the air and slight wind and swell around the bay. The sharks were a little on the slow side this morning with just over an hour wait for them to appear, but with an anchor change our morning group got their first glimpse of a White shark. The first shark of the day was none other than “Dolphin Fin”, the juvenile male biopsied by our Conservation Trust in 2015. This trip was dominated by the juveniles with all six of the sharks sighted being under the 3.0m in length. The smaller sharks may not be the most impressive however the active they exhibit around the boat is usually quite active and interesting to watch.

The second trip launched and approached the Shallows with hopes that the sharks from first trip or even some new individuals would be seen very soon. We were in luck with our first White shark or atleast it’s shadow spotted as we were getting everything ready. Within the first 20 minutes we had three different White sharks one of which stuck around and proved to be the most active for the first half of the trip. The largest shark of the day turned up mid way through the trip, a female of approximately 4.2m in length, known to us as “Gray” who was shortly followed by our smallest shark of the trip measuring just over 2.0m in length. A nice mix of sizes, males and females and fantastic activity around the boat this afternoon.
