We arrived into the Shallows this morning to a nice surprise…a big increase in visibility from the past few days! The sharks took their time coming in this morning, with the first shark, a sub-adult male spotted approximately 30 minutes after arrival. Not long behind this one was our acoustically tagged 3.8-4.0m female “Rosie”. The rest of the trip was dominated by some juvenile sharks, and whilst they may be small in size they sure impressed everyone with their speed and enthusiasm. This afternoon’s trip had a similar wait for that first shark to arrive, yet the important thing is that it did and not long after many others followed! The stand out of this trip was yet again our “Rosie”! Today she showed off her impressive growth and her agility as she made amazingly quick and sharp turns in front of our cage full of divers. The sharks were not the only creatures holding the attention of those on board today, we had a Cape Gannet making some impressive attempts to catch its afternoon snack right in front of the boat. The first three times proved unsuccessful however the fourth attempt was met with a round of applause as the bird captured its fishy prize! Today we had some special occasions to celebrate on Slashfin including the birthday of Robert and the very new engagement of Steve and Jill, congratulations to both! A great day spent on board Slashfin…
