What a stunning morning to launch with flat glass like seas and clear blue skies awaiting our first trip! With the slower activity we have been experiencing the past few days we had warned all on board that it might be a bit of a wait for the sharks to arrive however an hour after anchoring our first shark came into view cruising just below the surface behind the boat. This was a juvenile female we know as “Little Smithy” and whilst she is usually quite active she made only a few passes in front of us before dissappearing! This lead us to move to another spot where we had some sharks happy to stick around, this included one of our favourites, “Ingrid”, a large female approximately 4.2m in length, who has been quite for the last two days but reappeared today with some awe inspiring and scream envoking behaviour around the boat! The afternoon trip started off well with a darkly coloured male spotted within moments of anchoring, however this shark did not stick around for long just like “Little Smithy” on the first trip and we made the decision to move after quite a period of silence from the sharks! The second anchor proved successful attracting two of the large active females in the bay at the moment, “Ingrid” yet again and “Scarlett” and also a smaller male. On the way back to the harbour we were lucky enough to spot a mother and calf Southern Right whale pair very close to the boat! A fantastic way to end a fantastic day! A shout out to both Matt and Glen who were celebrating their birthdays today, Happy Birthday and best wishes to you each! A great way to spend your special day with some great animals…
