Depth: 8.9m + 9.3m

Visibility: 1m + 1m

Conditions: Sunny warm day with almost no wind.

It was a beautiful sunny morning as we headed out on a flat sea. We arrived at our dive site in The Shallows and our divers quickly jumped into their wetsuits. While people were getting ready, our first Cape Fur Seal came around. It wasn’t long before the seal was joined by several copper sharks. Our divers jumped into the cage. As they excitedly viewed the copper sharks passing by the boat, a small 2m White Shark came by to inspect our guests. It swam by the boat several times, before its friend came by: another 4m great white shark. Our guests baked in the warm sun, viewing the two great whites passing by. Soon the white sharks left us to hunt, and the copper sharks reappeared to entertain our guests. Towards the end of the trip, a Short-tailed Stingray briefly came up to check out our guests, before disappearing quickly down below. Our guests were left with an amazing memory of their time here in Gansbaai.

The second trip started and ended with a lovely young white shark who was around 2 meters in length.  In between, we were once again joined by our friends the copper shark.  The coppers made several nice passes for the cage divers to enjoy.  It was also a picture perfect day to be on sea.  We never get a no swell day in Gansbaai, but today was about as calm as we get.  Based on our sightings this week, there have been 4 different white sharks that have been seen from the boat.  We are all encouraged that this may be a trend that continues. On our way back to the harbour, a mother calf pair of Southern Right Whales popped up in the distance giving our guests the opportunity to see more of our amazing marine life in the bay. I want to thank our guests for bringing some entertainment to the crew as well.  One of our divers showed off his “shark bite”, giving everyone on board a good laugh.
