We launched from Gansbaai harbour this morning with a group on board from the National Geographic Orion Adventure Cruise. Leaving Gansbaai we made our way around Danger Point and on the way spotted a number of sea birds including White Chin Petrels, Cape Gannets, Sub-Antarctic Skuas, Shearwaters and Common Terns. We were also lucky enough to spot a young Humpback Whale frolicking in the swells around the point. A great start to the trip! Once anchored we had only minutes to wait till our first shark arrived. The activity with the sharks was practically quite until “Rosie” made an appearance, making many passes by the cage and providing some great action at the surface allowing hose on board a good look at the magnificent White Shark! We also saw “Little Rosie” amongst the sharks this morning. The clouds cleared after a spattering of rain as our second trip of the day arrived in the shallows allowing some much needed warmth to shine down on us! This trip also saw sharks only moments after arriving and the activity was continuous with a large male arriving first with some great passes before allowing smaller White Sharks to have some of the spot light however these smaller individuals were scared off when “Rosie” showed up again and dominated the area. This continued for most of the trip with a few juveniles coming in now and again whilst ‘Rosie” wasn’t in sight. Half way through the trip we spotted a large shadow under the water, not long after it reappeared and turned out to be “Ingrid”, the 4.2m female that like “Rosie”, we have been seeing on a regular basis for approximately 4 weeks now. A phenomenal day out on the water…
