Sightings: Great White Sharks, Bronze whalers and Short-tail stingrays

Another early morning with Marine Dynamics. We started the day with an incredible trip seeing not one but FIVE great white sharks. What an absolutely incredible feeling of seeing so many of them in one trip! Just as soon as we got to our anchor spot and had time to gear up, the first white shark cruised slowly around our cage, it was a young white shark female, checking us out. And just after that we got ourselves a new shark, unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to tell whether it was a male or a female, but it was at around 2.6m long. As our second group of people got into the cage, Shaun, 3.3m male, joined our little shark party. White shark activity did slow down for a short time, with Bronze whalers and Short tailed stingrays also having a chance to investigate our baits. Already being lucky enough to see three white sharks, we were awed as a large female (4.5m) named Clampy slowly swam along the cage. What a beautiful shark she is! And minutes later a feisty little female that we’ve been seeing quite a lot recently came out of nowhere showing all her power and speed trying to get our baits! With our spirits high, we headed back to the harbour to pick up our next group of people.
The second trip started off very bronzed as the Bronze whalers took control of the day, however not too long into our first cage a small but feisty juvenile Great White shark appeared, flying through the water like a little torpedo, it took us all by surprise as it made speedy approaches on the lines and kept us all on our toes. This was the start of some fantastic activity from the White sharks, Bronze whalers sharks and even two Short-tail stingrays. The rays were consistant throughout the trip, gliding down deep where we could only see large, round shadows but also taking some time to come to the surface and give us a great view. The Bronze whalers came and went as well, with those times when White shark activity slower down being used by this species to make a move towards the boat and cage. There were two other Great Whites that visited Slashfin during this trip, Shaun, the estimated 3.3m male that has been seen in the bay on and off since the start of May this year and another feisty juvenile, this one a female that has also been seen on and off since the beginning off May. A fantastic trip had at sea.
The final trip for the day was an exclusive for a family group visiting from the United States of America. We headed out and had a Bronze whaler approach the back of the boat not too long after we had resettled on anchor. Whilst this trip did not encounter a White shark the Bronze whalers kept coming and going throughout the afternoon, a few times getting as close as they possibly could to the cage, giving our guests in the water a lovely view of these sharks.
