Today was a repeat of yesterday with absolutely perfect weather conditions around the bay. The water was flat and glass-like and once on anchor we saw that the visibility was just as it has been, clear with views down to the bottom! The first shark was spotted as we were settling onto anchor and it was none other than a little male we know as “Cutfin” due to a boat strike injury to his dorsal fin. We also had a larger male knonw to us as “Tum K” however he appeared to not be in the mood for cage diving today and just cruised by the front of the boat and headed off. Two large females showed our guests the great size these animals can get to with a very clean approximately 4.5m beauty gliding by and one a little smaller also joining us. The smaller sharks were the show-stoppers of the day, in particular two smaller females that kept circling and kicking the activity up a notch!
The second trip of the day headed out and was met by a White shark only five minutes after picking up the waiting cage. This trip saw many of the same sharks as the first trip, including the fantastically large female. The most active shark of this trip yet again turned out to be one of the smaller ones, with one of our own acoustically tagged individual turning up and keeping our divers and watchers with their fingers ready to click away on their cameras! Another addition for this afternoon was a female sub-adult with parasites patches around the head, gills and just in front of the tail.
Both trips also saw the Short-tailed stingrays gliding through the water column and the Cape Fur seals of Geyser Rock.
Another stunning day out with the White sharks of Gansbaai!
