We had a bit of a later start today, giving our visitors and the sharks a little sleep in! The bay looked great this morning with relatively flat seas and some light winds present, the sharks must have thought so too as they were waiting for us, with one of our divers on board spotting that tell-tale shadow approaching the boat just after anchoring! The first shark, distinctive with some scarring on its trunk and dorsal fin, was continuously seen throughout this trip and whilst it was a tad bit shy in the beginning after the first 45 minutes things really picked up as this individual turned up the speed and new sharks started to arrive. One of our new arrivals was a juvenile male we are quite familiar with, this shark made numerous passes and also a few leaps out of the water before a larger shark arrived, making the smaller sharks keep a distance. This larger shark was none other than “Rosie”, our acoustically tagged female that has been visiting us for close to a week now. “Rosie” gave many of our divers a close up, as she came in jaws first to the cage and glided right along it! The second trip of the day started well with sharks around just after arrival, however it slowed down and the boat moved locations to try their luck elsewhere! This proved a good move and the activity picked up at the new site with four new sharks seen. These individuals were all around the 3.0m and whilst they might not be as impressive as the larger sized sharks these smaller sharks have a great presence around the boat as their speed and agility has the ability to draw gasps and cheers from those on board! A great start to the week…
