Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 15.1’C + 15.3’C
Depth:  8.5 m + 9m
Visibility:  1.5 m + 1m
White Sharks Seen: 5 + 6
Conditions: A foggy start to the morning with very little wind and a small rolling swell, then sunshine burning through and wind picking up as the day went on.

Fog across the bay made for an eerie feeling as Slashfin launched out of Kleinbaai harbour for the day. Once on anchor wetsuits and booties were handed out and before we knew it, a juvenile white shark with a white mark on its snout lunged out of the water with the bait line firmly in its teeth. This 2.8 meter male sub-adult was very active,  making numerous attempts at the bait line and seal decoy. He was soon joined by the 4.8 meter beauty that we’ve seen for the past few days, sporting a rather large patch of copepods on the back of its head area that looks a bit like a bad toupee. At one point, this large white shark was accompanied in front of the cage with a 2.6 meter white shark with no easily identifying marks. This smaller shark was a bit shy- understandable so as it was in the presence of a fellow white shark that was nearly twice its size! We also had some nice passes in front of the cage of the 3.8 meter male with shark with the bite scar on his left gill slits, and a new 4.0 meter male with a curled up pectoral fin. All of the sharks on this trip seemed as though they had gotten plenty of sleep last night as they were very curious about our bait line and seal decoy, some showing their true grace and agility. For our second trip we didn’t have too long of a wait until we got our divers in the cage, and up close and personal with some white sharks. First up we had the shark with the parasites around the head. This shark gave our divers some very nice out of the water action, a very exciting interaction indeed! We had a bit of a wait for our next shark, but it was certaily worth it with two 3.5m sharks at the cage at the same time an awesome sight to see, the second of which was the male with the bite mark aroud the gill area. He stuck around for a while giving our divers some very close passes. The sharks continued to come as the trip progressed with a 3.7m female, a small 2.6m female and a 3m shark rounding out the trip. An excellent trip all round!
