Conditions: Very sunny with a slight wind in the morning, become slowly less throughout the day.

This morning we left from Gansbaai harbour, traveled around our beautiful point while the spray crossed our bow, and headed towards our dive site in The Shallows. As our guests jumped into their wetsuits, a southern right whale mother popped up to say hello with her, relatively, small calf. Our divers were immediately thrilled by the site, and even more so when a seal approached our boat and show of her hunting skills, chasing the little fish that come around. Slowly the copper sharks started to approach our boat. It seemed like they were still sleepy at this time of the morning. A short-tailed stingray also rose up from the deep, saying hello to our divers several times. By the end of the trip our guests were thrilled with the amazing wildlife they saw in our beautiful waters, and left with many good memories.

For our second trip we once more headed straight back to our dive-site. As we arrived, the seal from this morning was still hanging around, eager to say hello to the new divers. This time the coppers sharks were a lot more awake, and eagerly displayed their suave in front of our guests, while the sun broke through the water and left curious patterns across the skin of the copper shark. As the day progressed the sun became warmer, and the wind slowly started to slow down. Our guests baked in the sun as the copper sharks swam in front of our divers in the cold atlantic waters. However, soon we headed back to shore, as our divers eagerly looked forward to the soup waiting at the Great White House.

The third trip started off with a bang.  Before we were even finished handing out wetsuits, a beautiful white shark appeared.  It is a new shark to the bay this season which was very exciting to see.  After making a couple of quick appearances, we thought the action might be finished.  We couldn’t have been more wrong.  The white shark actually made a predation attempt on the one of the smaller copper sharks right in front of the cage.  It was a failed predation, but everyone on the boat was amazed at what they had just witnessed, crew included.  Copper sharks are a known prey species for white sharks, but it is very rare to actually witness an interaction like this. What a special treat.  Once the white shark moved on, we were fortunate to witness more copper sharks giving all of our divers some very close passes.  We all considered ourselves very lucky to have spent such a special day at sea.
