Slashfin launched this morning with a beautiful sunrise from behind the mountain. As we anchored, we had a feeling that it was going to be a good day, and we were right! Within 10 minutes we had our first shark, the young 1.8 meter male juvenile that we’ve been seeing around. He did a few deep passes, made a few attempts at the bait line, then left. Fortunately we didn’t have to wait long before two other white sharks arrived. The first was about 2.6 meters long and the other about 3 meters long with a white mark to the leading edge of its dorsal fin. These two gave our divers some beautiful views, but they were not the star of the show. Today’s star was a stunning 4.6 meter female with a damaged dorsal fin. Her size and grace had everyone’s jaws dropping.
The second trip of the day launched at 11:00am, with a boat full of excited guests hoping to continue with the sightings from the previous trip. The day continued bright, sunny and warm, with visibility great as we anchored in the Shallows to wait for our first shark. Within moments of anchoring we had a glimpse of a large shark pass by the back of the boat, unfortunately this was the only moment the shark spent with our boat before disappearing and not returning for the rest of the trip. We waited for a while (with abit of kiss cam happening with our divers in the water waiting) before changing to a new anchor spot with hopes to have more luck there and see more sharks. However, as it is with wildlife, these sightings are unpredictable. Fortunately, we were graced with the presence of another smaller shark who made two brief passes near the boat that the guests were able to see before we made our way back to land. A big thank you to our guests on this second trip for their patience and understanding.
