Trip 1
We left Kleinbaai harbour as a light rain started, this was to be constant throughout the day with some dry patches and a shower here and there however the White sharks don’t mind a little bit of water! We headed to the back of the Islands to seek some shelter from the stronger west winds present today and we were met by our first White shark of the day 15 minutes after we had anchored. This was a large male we have also seen on the other side of the Islands and whilst his presence was impressive and he did come and go throughout the trip, he was happy to stay below the surface and cruise on by. The second and third shark of the trip we a lot more active around the boat, both females around the 3.5m length. It was the third shark that cause most of the excitement as she was slow in her approach yet came very close to the cage and boat with her jaws open and had a few nice attempts on our seal decoy.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day launched to similar conditions and we were yet again at the back of the Islands. On arrival we spotted a juvenile White shark swimming on the surface and not long after getting everything ready we had a steady flow of shark activity. The first three sharks we saw on this trip were all playful little sharks that we had not seen this morning and whilst they lacked that impressive size people associate with White sharks they sure were active with quite a few fast paced attempts on the bait and decoy line. The first shark of the day, the slow and steady male, was our fourth and final shark of this trip and the day.
Both trips enjoyed a closer look at the inhabitants of Geyser Rock, the Cape Fur seals.
