The sun had just risen over the Overberg as we headed to The Shallows. We quickly put the cage in the water and our divers climbed into their wetsuits. Moments later we had our first visitor, a Copper shark, come around. Our divers quickly jumped into the cage and our bait-handlers expertly guided the sharks in front of them. Our guests were thrilled by the close-proximity and activity of these beautiful animals. We even had a brief visit of a white shark come around. By the end of the trip we headed back to shore. Because the tide was too low in Kleinbaai harbour, we headed around Danger Point to Gansbaai harbour. Here a couple of shuttles were ready and waiting for them to take them back to the Great White House.
For our second trip we headed back to the shallows and got sharks pretty quickly on this trip. We started out with a couple of curious copper sharks. In the distance we saw a small white shark cruising at the surface, and she eventually joined us up close to the cage. This 2.5m female white shark gave us a spectacular show, with our divers getting some excellent views of her from the cage. We had more action from the copper sharks then a dark shadow of a large white shark cruised beneath the cage, unforunately not to be seen again. Nevertheless, we got another small 2.5m great white with the fishing line in her mouth. After a stunning trip we headed back to the harbour for our final tour.
Our last trip of the day started out with some more action from the copper sharks, with some very close encounters with our first cage. The second group jumped in to enjoy more of the copper sharks, activity which we haven’t really seen in a few days which was nice to see. Our third group got lucky with the small female from the second trip joining us for some excellent passes, showing off her true power for all our guests to enjoy. She came and went through the remainder of the trip, intertwined with some more lovely copper shark activity. All in all a very successful day on the water.
