It was a late launch for Slashfin and her guests today with tides and conditions against us to set out any earlier. We made our way out of Kleinbaai harbour at 12 o’clock and made our way into the choppy waters of the Joubertsdam. Once on anchor we had the Copper sharks appear, a species that generally grows up to 3.0m in length and one that exhibits pairing or schooling behaviour. We moved anchor after a few sightings of Copper sharks but no White sharks. On our new anchor we spotted our first White shark, a very small juvenile, which took it’s time getting close to us but then came and went throughout the entire trip. The second shark to arrive was none other than one of our Iconic sharks, ‘Scarlett’ she made a few passes, one at the surface before disappearing and being replaced by a female a little smaller with a 90° bend in her right pectoral fin and dark scarring covering both sides of her trunk. Things became a little quite after this before a feisty 3.0m female known to us as ‘Sarko’ appeared and another very small juvenile similar in size to our first shark also turned up.

The second trip of the day followed on from the first one with the Copper sharks the first to appear and a little bit of a wait for a White shark to appear but within 45 minutes of re-anchoring it did! We had 4 white sharks the coppers and a stingray on this trip. For our white sharks we had two large females around 4m join use almost in unison, with some great action from them. The second large female was another new shark, with a very distinctive dorsal fin! We had the small pale female from the first trip as well as a darting pass from Sarko! A windy but successful sharky humpday!
