We had a little rain this morning, but that did not dull our spirits in the least. We got everyone dressed into their wetsuits on land and then set out towards the dive site where we hoped to have an awesome few hours with some cool cartilaginous fish. We were in luck, with the sharks coming up within the first 10 minutes at the site. The visibility was also incredible today, with our divers being able to see sharks 2m away. They also got to see some sharks lurking below them, which definitely enhanced the time in the cage. It was so clear that one could even see the eyes of the animals under the water, which made for a great dive. We got to see a variety of different sized sharks, including an animal that had a tag on its dorsal fin. In recent years, some fishermen have joined in on conservation efforts by assisting in tagging these animals to gain more insight into their movements. The sharks were cooking this morning, but we were also visited by some other species too. The first was a Short Tailed Stingray who visited and gave some of our clients a good look at their impressive wingspan. We also had 2 Cape Fur Seals come up and hug each other in front of the cage, which caused Bee, our videographer, to believe that they may be on honeymoon.
We headed back to the sea once more today. As we left rainy Kleinbaai behind we were excited to see some lovely sharks and other marine wildlife that happened to come and visit our cage. Copper sharks appeared as soon as we attached the cage back to the boat. Divers were thrilled to jump into their wetsuits and meet the sharks in the cage. Bronzies gave us an incredible performance coming up really close to the cage and showing off their beautiful colours. After some time we had a few more visitors: first, a Cape Fur Seal played around the boat for a little while, and then a Short Tailed stingray ascended to investigate our baits. The weather kept changing, with the sun coming out after a little drizzle. Despite the rain, we had a great trip with lots of shark action and other animals.
