A wild and wet day to start the week.
We launched as early as possible to try to beat the predicted weather for the afternoon with swells and wind increasing throughout the day. The saw a Southern Right whale close by and once a comfortable anchor spot was reached we set about trying to attract the main attraction…those sharks and so the waiting began. The group waited patiently and approximately an hour and half into the trip our first shark appeared, one of our bronzed friends, as a nice sized Copper shark made its presence known. The first divers descended into the chilly Atlantic waters and bobbed around in the cage waiting for a shark to appear, which the Copper did not but just as the first divers were exiting the cage a Great White shark came rocketing towards the surface, hard to detect due to today’s limited visibility, this shark surprised all on board. This shark was a different individual to the other two that we have been seeing over the last five days, we are unsure of gender as the animal did not stick around and we could not see the underside, the location of the pelvic fins which would either have claspers (male) or not (female) however size estimation is approximately 3.0m in length and the shark was very darkly coloured in its dorsal surface. It disappeared and made a few deep passes around the back of the boat throughout the rest of the trip as did the Copper sharks, of which we believe there were two different individuals.
