Sightings: Great White Sharks, Bronze Whalers, Cape Fur Seal
Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: Moderate
Visibility: Poor
We started our dau quite early in the morning, just before the sunrise. Once we got on our dive location we did our best to gear uo as quickly as possible knowing that when the sharks are around they might not stick with us for the rest of the trip. Our sharks did not make us wait for too long. The first sharks we got were two bronze whalers circling the boat and showing how agile and beautiful they can be. And just few moments later the first white shark appered from the deep, it was a feisty juvenile great white showing off all her speed while going for our lines. And then as it usually happens Shaun gave us a few nice relaxed passes along the cage sticking with us for pretty much the rest of the trip. What a beautiful shark he is! And just as we thought our trip was almost over ab stunning 4.5m female great white shar, named Clampy, showed up impressing everyone with her size and power. Once everyone had their chance in the cage we headed to Gansbaai harbour, enjoying our a bit longer but fun ride!
For our second trip we had to launch from Gansbaai harbour as there was not enough water in Kleinbaai, it gave us a great opportunity to enjoy a beautiful coastlie of Gansbaai. Once we got to the dive location we quickly jumped into our wetsuits and started to wait. Finally two copper sharks arrived but after a couple of passes we were left with no shark sat sight for some time. In order to get ourselves some great whites we made a decision to change our anchor spot and it proved to be a good idea, as on our new spot we got ourselves not one but three great white sharks. First Shaun showed up, a 3.3m male, followed by a feisty little female. And just at the end we were lucky enough to see another larger shark, a 3.3m female cruising along the cage. What a great trip after all!
Slashfin launched a third and final time this afternoon and our last group of guest did not have long to wait for those big fish to arrive as a Great White shark was seen just as the divers were finishing the mission of wiggling into their wetsuits. This was the small female with a large bite scar to her head and semi-circle shaped notch out of the trailing edge of her dorsal fin. Whilst the first week or so we saw this shark acting very curious around the boat today she did not stay for long and perhaps that had something to do with the second shark to arrive. Whilst this new addition for the trip was also a juvenile he had some amazing behaviour to him with close passes and fast paced approaches on the lines. To round off the afternoon we saw Shaun the shark, an estimated 3.3m male that was seen on both the previous trips, we were glad to see this shark and introduce him to our new guests. A fantastic trip to finish the day off!
