The crew of Slashfin picked up on something fishy quickly this morning as a shadow was seen far out from the boat before darting deep. The first group to take the icy plunge into the cage was ready to go and waited patiently in the water and out of no where came a hit to Sally the seal decoy as a nice sized (over 3.0m) White shark’s head showed above the surface of the water before quickly turning on its’ side and with a flick of the tail it was gone. We hoped the best, that this shark would come back to the surface so we could have some more viewing time with her but unfortunately the early encounter would be all for the morning. We had the same Cape Fur seal that has been sighted around the bay for the last week and a half pop up a few times, porpoising along aside the boat as we made an anchor move. For the bird lovers on board we had great views of a Caspian Tern towards the end of the trip, the largest of the terns in this area.

The second trip of the day headed out to similar conditions, a lessening of swell was felt, a slight change in wind and a few patches of rain throughout the trip, however the group championed on through the trip waiting for a glimpse of the Great White shark. A Short-tailed stingray came to the surface here and there however no White sharks made their presence known for the afternoon, even so some of our guests didn’t want to pass up the chance to give our cage a try and went in for a dip. The trip finished with a cruise out to the Islands, through Shark Alley to have a look at the impressive Cape Fur seal colony the Great Dyer Island area boasts.
