Trip Comments:

Today was to be a beautiful flat sea day with many hours of sunshine. We launched from Gansbaai harbor and made our way around Danger Point towards Joubertsdam. As we got to Joubertsdam we found out that the visibility was incredible! Visibility was at least 4 meters. The sharks seemed to like it as they were around in abundant numbers and we didn’t have to wait at all for sharks to show up. Highlight of the 1st trip was a 5 meter female! But that was not the only surprise as we also spotted a 1.5 meter shark. We ended up seeing a total of 15 sharks! On our second trip we hosted an Italian research group. It was their last trip with us this year from a series of five trips and we hope to see them back next year. The trip was incredible with as much as 17 different sharks. The visibility was still good and on our way to Joubertsdam we spotted a Bryde’s whale. They are known for coming up to the surface for breathing very briefly before diving into deeper waters for a long time. This Bryde’s whale seemed to be very relaxed as it kept on coming up to the surface. We had to start moving again after 10 minutes with the Bryde’s whale but we were very fortunate to see it!
