“Great trip, crew was awesome.” – Isaac

Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: 15.4°C + 15.7°C

Depth: 8.9m + 8.7m

Visibility: 1m + 1m

Conditions:  A little bit of swell and a touch of wind towards the end of the day.

Our first tour head out nice and early, departing the harbour at around 7am and then shooting straight through to our dive site. Here, we found that the visibility is still great under the water, with our views under the water being around 1m, perhaps even more. We started to hand out the wetsuits on arrival and not a moment later, we had our first Bronze Whaler of the day show up. We’re loving diving with these charismatic creatures who have been active around the boat, coming in and checking out our operation from below. We’re still seeing mostly larger animals around and we were lucky to have consistent sightings throughout the entire tour. We even had some Copper Sharks do a bit of an ambush approach from below, emerging vertically from the depths which is cool to see because they’re general approach is usually from the side. Towards the end of the tour, we also had a Cape Fur Seal pop up.

Once again we headed out for our second trip, and on our way to our dive site we passed a visiting southern right whale. Once we arrived at our site, we soon had the cage next to our boat and our guests jumped into their wetsuits. Before the first copper shark arrived, we were visited by Lucy, our latest cape fur seal regular. She happily hung around the boat, chasing the mullet that gather for the chum, and bathing in the sun. Throughout the trip the copper sharks would rise up out of the deep, before disappearing back to deeper waters, keeping our bait-handlers continuously on their toes. As Dream Catcher, our sister whale watching boat, approached, one copper shark decided to impress everyone and jumped straight, full-body, out of the water. However, we soon had to head back, but our guests left feeling wondrous about the whole experience.
