Have you heard about the shark dance? If not, you’re missing out! We began our first trip of the day with a little shark dance and within seconds we had a shark! It was the 3 meter male nicknamed Clampo. He was quickly joined by the 2.6 meter male that we’ve been seeing around lately. Within minutes, these two boys were joined by a stunning 4.3 meter female with a patch of parasitic copepods on her “chin.” She slowly passed back and forth in front of the cage, giving all of our divers in every cage some absolutely breath-taking views. She eventually disappeared and we were soon surprised with a much younger shark, about 1.8 meters long. This little shark was quite shy and stayed deep but was still a pleasure to see. With a fantastic trip finished we headed back into shore, excited for the following trips.
For our second trip of the day, with the sun shining and calm seas, we didn’t have to wait long for the sharks to arrive. Our first shark of the trip was the 3m female with the scars just behind her gills on the left side. She stuck around us for close to 30 minutes coming and going. In between her we also had the very small 1.8 meter white shark from this morning, that passed by deep a few times, but with the visibility good today as well we managed to catch a glimpse! After a few minutes without sharks, Clampo joined us for the remainder of the trip. He gave us some stunning passes very close to the cage much to the delight of our divers in the water.
Our third trip of the day was a private trip with a family living in the states. We were blessed with the young shark from the first trip returning within minutes of our arrival. This time it was much more curious, making several consecutive attempts at the seal decoy and fish heads. We also had a 3 meter male come by at the end of the trip, making a few nice passes. We packed up and headed over to Shark Alley to see what the white sharks come here for- the Cape fur seals. With a gorgeous sunset approaching, we headed back in to Kleinbaai harbour, finishing another great white day!
