What an incredible morning in the shallows! With the wind scheduled to pick up in the afternoon, we set out bright and early on the first tour of the day to make the most of the morning. When we arrived at the dive site, we were thrilled to see that the visibility had improved substantially from yesterday. Our divers were also in luck with slightly warmer water and to top it all off, brilliant shark activity. We had to do almost no waiting for our first Copper shark to come up to the boat and then we were treated to epic shark watching and diving all throughout our time on anchor. The sharks just kept coming up and showing off, much to the delight of divers and crew alike. The ocean really was abuzz with activity, with us getting to see a huge flock of Cape Cormorants heading out fishing, as well as a few other species around the boat itself. Whilst enjoying our active Copper Sharks, a massive Short Tailed Stingray emerged from the depths, launching itself at the bait and giving us all a great look at it’s strange looking form. This stingray hung around for the rest of the trip, even inviting a fellow ray up to come and check us out too. We also had a super cool Cape Fur seal around who seems to be using Slashfin to help her catch her Mullets. She pushes the fish against the boat before gobbling them down, and a couple of us were lucky to witness this towards the end of the tour. Gorgeous sharks, curious rays and one pesky Cape Fur Seal made for an incredible trip out on the water.
For our second trip we headed out of the harbour once more with quite a strong wind blowing from the east and a bit of choppy waters around us. Nonetheless, our guests were thrilled to start our little adventure. Once we got to the dive site divers quickly jumped into their wetsuits and were ready to enter the cage. The sharks appeared as soon as the cage was safely attached to the side of our boat. It was an incredible sight: Copper Sharks were extremely active, not leaving a single person indifferent to their presence. They hung around the boat for the whole time of our trip and the divers were aflame by their performance around the cage. Almost at the end of our trip Short Tailed Stingray decided to come and say hello to our guests, showing of its impressive spiracles behind its eyes. Unfortunately, we had to head back to the harbour leaving all the beautiful wild animals behind.
