Trip 1
A beautiful day greeted our first group of shark cage divers this morning as thy headed on board Slashfin to the Summer anchor spot in the Shallows. Once on acnhor this group showed a lot of patience with an hour long wait till our first shark of the day appeared. This trip saw 6 different White sharks throughout the morning with the largest measuring in at approximately 4.0m and the smallest, a juvenile approximately 2.4m in length. One of our Iconic sharks, “Pieter” appeared this morning, well known to the Marine Dynamics team as he was tagged and biopsied in 2015 and was our first shark spotted back in the Shallows after a 21 day scarcity of White sharks in January of this year. We were also lucky enough to see one of the area’s other shark species, the Bronze Whaler. A fantastic start to the day.

Trip 2
The second trip of the day launched and luck was on their side from the get go with a shark spotted moments after arrival back on anchor. This trip saw a number of different sharks to the first one with a higher presence of males around as well. Two females we know very well made an appearance, “Momi” and “Gigi” both with healing bite wounds on their heads. We also saw on of our acoustically tagged animals which was tagged in September of this year.

Trip 3
The third and final trip started off well with a female close to the size of the cage turning up soon after we arrived back on anchor. This female has been seen every now and again for the last couple of weeks and is always an impressive sight for those on board. We also had one male make an appearance again this afternoon, a sub-adult male by the name of “Pieter”. This trip like the previous two today had a constant presence of Bronze Whalers around the boat as well, adding to the shark sightings for this wonderful day.
