Location:
Geldsteen

Water Temperature: 13.9C + 14.1C
Depth: 14.3m + 20.0m
Visibility: 2.5m + 2.5m
Number of Sharks: 7 + 6
Conditions:  A day with a bit of swell and wind. Fortunately the wind was coming from the east so we were sheltered on the western side of Dyer Island.

Our day started with a 8.30 launch from Kleinbaai harbor. The swell was a little bit above 3m so we had to time the swell so that we could have a smooth ride. The ride out of the harbor was timed right by our skipper so it was smooth. We headed towards the Geldsteen and boy were we lucky to see a White shark predate on a Cape Fur seal! The seal was floating around but the shark swam off to grab yet another seal! In the mean time another shark grabbed the seal that was killed earlier. This was an amazing event we were very lucky to witness as this does not happen very often right in front of our boat! We got on anchor and started diving. We spotted 7 different sharks on our first trip varying in length from 2m to 3.7m. We launched for our second trip at 12.30 and headed back to the Geldsteen. We had to wait a bit for the sharks to approach the boat but that is not uncommon as it is wildlife we’re dealing with. When the sharks approached we started diving and boy were we lucky to get such active sharks that stuck around the whole time. Amongst the sharks we spotted on our second trip was Poseidon, a 3m male with a satellite tag. We managed to spot at least 6 different sharks varying from 2.4m to 3.4m in length.
