Depth: 10 m

Visibility: 1 m

Number of Sharks: First Trip (11 Sharks)

Conditions: Calm Sea, low winds, beautiful day

The first trip of the day had a great ride out on the calm seas. After a short wait we had our first shark, a 3 m juvenile who cruised into the bait very slowly and calmly. He was soon joined by another shark of similar size. After the first hour we had 6 sharks around the cage, with a total of 11 for the whole trip. During the last hour of the trip there were 5 or 6 sharks in front of the boat at the same time, showing a number of hierarchical body postures and swimming behaviours around the bait. Mandy, a 3 m female showed up in the middle of the trip and stuck around for the remainder of our time out on the water. We also had visits from two of the sharks tagged with arcode tags by the Marine Dynamics research team. The second trip had a total of 9 white sharks at the boat, with constant activity throughout the trip. A large Male briefly swam by and checked out our bait, but if obviously wasn’t a big enough lure to keep him around. The third trip saw 8 sharks, with Mandy the 3 m female around again to say hello. A very hot calm day on the big blue.
