With three trips on the cards today, we headed out bright and early to get the most out of the day. We arrived at our anchor spot this morning, geared up and started to learn about the sharks and the area. Whie chatting out of nowhere a 2m great white popped up and nudged the decoy line, but then disappeared as soon as it appeared. We waited a little while longer and then our second shark of the trip joined us a larger 3m white shark that came in front of the cage, giving us a couple of nice passes. The stingrays also joined us on this trip gliding around the front of the cage, and towards the end of the trip we had a cheeky cape fur seal checking out our divers in the cage! On our way back into the harbour for our second trip we were also lucky enough to see a southern right whale majestically cruising through the shallows.
For our second trip we were hopeful that the 2 sharks we saw on the first trip were still hanging around in the shallows. We waited patiently for the sharks to show, but even without sharks around we had some more keen divers to get in the cage and have a bit of fun in the water! We did have the seal back around the boat again, with a seal versus mullet hunt witnessed with the seal successful multiple times. Unfortunately no white sharks decided to show up for this trip, so we headed over the shark alley to go check out the seal colony residing on Geyser Rock.
The third and final trip of the day headed out and waited patiently to see if a shark might appear. The Cape Fur seal made a visit to the boat again however after some time we re-anchored next to one of the other vessels and within 15 minutes the cry of shark was heard as the 3.0m female from the first trip showed up again. She made some beautiful passes by the first cage of divers before disappearing and only making one more attempt on the decoy before trips end. We counted ourselves lucky to be able to say that we were one of the trips that actually were able to see a White shark today!
