Conditions: Beautiful sunny day, with little swell and slight wind.
This mornings first trip enjoyed a scenic ride around Danger Point as the tide in Kleinbaai harbour was too low and we used Gansbaai instead. Once on anchor it was not long before those Bronze Whalers showed up and we enjoyed some stunning views as they swam in and out sight, gleaming in the mornings sunlight. All our cages enjoyed underwaters views of the Bronze Whales and during the second and third cage we had a Short-tailed stingray glide up from the depths as a juvenile Cape Gannet dove into the waters surrounding it trying to catch the small, schooling fish around the boat. Just as we were getting ready to finish up things got exciting as a Great White shark appeared out of nowhere with a fast-paced surprise approach up from below. This small shark, approximately 2.5m in length stuck around for the rest of the trip giving us some great passes.
We quickly made our way back to our dive site for the second trip. We barely had our cage attached to the side of our vessel when we saw our first white shark. Our guests quickly climed into their wetsuits and jumped into the cage. Soon we had lots of Copper sharks, several white sharks, and a short-tailed stingray swim by. With the beautiful weather and amazing activity, it was fantastic to be out on the boat. Unfortunately the trip was over too soon, and we headed back to shore.
Our third trip started off with lots of sunshine and a bit of wind. We headed to the Shallows to show our guests some incredible sharks. As soon as we got to the dive site the first Bronzie came attracted by the chum. Our guests quickly geared up and were ready to jump into the cage. All the divers had some incredible sightings underwater with copper sharks trying to stick their “noses” into the cage. Just when the third cage got inside a short-tailed stingray appeared going for the bait. It was an incredible trip with lots of shark activity around the cage.
