Would our one sighting of a White shark yesterday afternoon be a positive sign of things to come…we hoped so! The Copper sharks appeared quite quickly and came and went throughout the trip, making their way up from the depths like ghostly figures flashing by! Slashfin’s guests jumped into the cage straight away for the Coppers and we waited patiently to see if the White sharks would show up. It was towards the end of the morning that we finally had eyes on a White shark, it was circling around a piece of kelp a few metres away from the boat before slowly and cautiously making its’ way towards the boat. This was the same juvenile male from yesterday afternoon with lots of scratches covering its snout, and one that we do not recognise, we have had some suggestions from our guests this morning that he be named Dory, Colin or Fortnight in regard to the fact that he was our first White shark sighting in 2 weeks!

The second trip of the day saw the Copper sharks yet again appear quickly but also a White shark with the small male gracing this group with his presence furthermore a second White shark came through for this trip, could this be the beginning of the Whites slowly but truly returning to Gansbaai? This was a larger female, approximately 3.5m in length and with a frayed tip to the tail, one that we recognise on sight as she has been coming and going from the area over the last few months, usually one of the first to come back after an Orca visit and the last to leave!

A successful White shark day for Marine Dynamics, the first for a while and hopefully one of many to come!
