After only 15 minutes on anchor this morning we had friends in the water circling the cage eager to give our divers some action shots. First up was Sarko who was full of energy, giving some great out of the water activity. Then a small 2m female joined us for some beautiful passes. She was a little timid and played gently with Sally the decoy only to be replaced moments later by the large 3.8m female with the bent pectoral. She was pumped and ready to go with a mixture of small breaches and graceful passes, fully demonstrating the range of behaviour these white sharks display. On our way back to the harbour we were in for a special treat. Breaching Southern Right Whales!!! This was an incredible sight to witness after which they waved us off and we moved on back to the harbour.
For our second trip we encountered the Southern Rigths again on the way out, now just casually chilling at the surface, but the shark activity went up another level. With three white sharks on this trip, the numbers do not do the action justice. We had the small female and Sarko for a short period of time this trip, but the show was stolen by a 3.8m female. She was strutting her stuff and giving both our guests on the boat and our cage divers some fabulous photo opportunities. With copper sharks and stingrays filling in the small gaps with no white sharks, we had an awesome trip. Claire and Tom Sharkey clearly brought us some great luck today, we had to get a selfie for the occasion too!
The third trip was an exclusive for two gentlemen visiting from Russia for the one reason they wanted to see Great White sharks. We had a bit of a slow start with our White shark sightings however the Copper sharks were around to keep us on our toes before the main shark species arrived. We had two different Whites visit for this trip both approximately 3.0m in length and one being ‘Sarko’, a regular visitor to the bay over the last 12 months. The Shor-tailed stingrays paid a few visits to the surface and we ended the trip with a cruise through Shark Alley to have a closer look at the Cape Fur seal inhabitants on Geyser Rock.
