Trip 1
The tides and conditions made for a later start today with Slashfin launching from Kleinbaai at 9:30am. Due to the weather conditions yesterday we could not make it out onto the sea and were all anxious to see how the shark behaviour and activity would be today after a week of touch and go sightings, possibly due to a seasonal and site change in the area. The swells were still around after yesterday but had thankfully decreased and the sun stayed out all day showing off the bay’s natural beauty. This trip’s guests showed some true patience as they waited close to an hour and a half for the first shark to show up, but the important thing is it did, the group were able to watch as the shark followed the scent trail up to the boat, after sighting other sharks in the distance this curious one got everyone excited. By the end of the trip three juveniles had been sighted, two of which had some fantastic behaviour around the boat, including the newly adopted “3bird”, a feisty little female that has become a favourite to many of our visitors.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day launched hoping that the sharks would not be as shy as the first trip in approaching the boat, we were lcuky enough to have a shark not too far from the cage when we arrived back and were able to start diving straight away. The stand out shark of this trip was yet again that playful little female “3bird”, who stuck with us the entire afternoon, showing off why she is known as such a star shark around the boat. We also had the largest shark of the day show up during this trip, unfortunately she was a little cautious and stuck deep with only one pass. We believe this to be the same large shark we encountered on Saturday, yet again her behaviour was on the shy side however we hope to catch a better glimpse of her soon.
We would like to wish a FIN-tastic Birthday to Alison, who celebrated her 40th with Marine Dynamics and the Great White sharks of Gansbaai!
