An early morning out on the water today with the divers using the fresh air and water to wake up! We had our first shark of the day arrive approximately 20 minutes after we had arrived. This was a small, juvenile male very streamlined and with old scars to the tail. This individual had a very persistant and slow behaviour to it as it cruised around the boat and ended up visiting throughout most of the trip and the two trips that followed later! The two other sharks we were lucky enough to see this morning were sub adults, a female and male, neither of who stuck around but every now and again would have a sneaky ambush attempts on the bait and decoy lines. We also had a large pod of what appeared to be Common dolphins swimming by in the distance by the shore. The second trip were lucky enough to come back to the dive site to the sight of a White shark, this one however did not stick around and was only sighted briefly on arrival. The juvenile male from the previous trip was present as well as one of the smallest White sharks our team has seen before! This very young individual, quite possiblity young of the year, was quite skittish around the boat and did not take well too many movements and noises which appeared to spook it. One of our acousticly tagged sharks made a visit this trip and also the next. The third and final trip of the day was yet again greeted by the a White shark once we got close enough to see our cage and it was none of then our little juvenile male from the previous two trips hanging around! This trip also witnessed two large males both approximately in the 3.0m – 3.5m length range, an impressive sight for anyone. We also said hello again to “Little Smithy” the juvenile female we welcomed back just a few days ago! Meeting a White shark, what a fantastic way to start a week…
