The glossy water was a dream to ride out on to the shallows this morning. With good visibility and calm seas all we needed was the sun to shine. The threat of rain loomed for most of the day with dark clouds above, but held out for us thankfully. We were out early this morning in hope that our white sharks were back and eager to keep a keen eye out for them. We were treated massively on this first trip with a mother calf pair of southern right whales gliding about 200m away. As they headed away we thought that was it for the whale sightings, but out of nowhere we had a breaching calf towards the shoreline, a truly epic sight to see. Exemplifying that no shark cage diving experience is the same. It took a while for the copper sharks to show up this morning, and after moving anchor we started to have better success. With some very close passes the cage divers got some great up close action with these awesome sharks. With six individuals spotted on this trip we were lucky to have them strutting their stuff.
For the second trip today, the temperature started to dip a bit but this didn’t dampen our spirits. Instead we cracked on and submerged ourselves in the fresh Atlantic to spot some more awesome copper sharks. And we were not disappointed! We even had a cheeky cape fur seal around the boat towards the end of this trip attempting to give the copper sharks a bit of a chase!
The third and final trip of the day was colder still, but with coppers still hanging around the cage we hadn’t a care in the world. We had some more excellent activity this afternoon, with some very happy cage divers.
