Location:
Shark Alley

Water Temperature: 15.0C
Depth: 7.1m
Visibility: 5m
Number of Sharks: 5
Conditions:  The wind settled in the afternoon and the swell went down too. The ride was a bit rough but in the alley where we anchored it was nice and calm.

We had a trip on standby today as the swell was above 3m but fortunately it got smaller as the day progressed. This morning we got the OK to go as the wind had dropped significantly and the swell would be down to 3.4m at 1.00pm. We made sure everyone knew about the conditions and Hennie, our skipper, even did a detailed weather briefing before we launched. We headed towards Dyer Island to see if we could anchor at the Geldsteen but this was not possible due to the swell. We moved around Dyer Island and had a look at the Cape Fur seals on Geyser Rock before we anchored in Shark Alley. The visibility was great and there was just a little bit of swell as we were quite sheltered in the Alley. Boy were we lucky today to see our first shark after 25 minutes because it usually takes a little bit longer for sharks to come into the alley. The first shark we spotted was a little juvenile at +/- 2.4m in length. It was easy to recognize as it had a bite mark from another shark on its left flank just behind the gills. We managed to see at least 5 different sharks varying from 2.5m to 3.5m in length. The little juvenile with the bite mark was the most active and showed us a few impressive breaches right in front of our boat. Even though it was a bit choppy today, we had a <2 year old on the boat and she seemed to have the time of her life! We were very happy so reviece a 5 star comment on trip advisor from this family as they were suprised to see how easy it was to bring their kid with on the boat. Not a problem for us at all, we are more than glad to help where ever needed to make sure that families can join the boat together, no matter the age!
