We set out on the first tour of the day shortly after 9 o’clock from Kleinbaai, eager to see what the ocean had in store for us today. on the ride out, we were lucky enough to spot 3 pairs of Southern Right Whales slowly travelling around, before we found ourselves in the shallows. Here, we started our dive, getting everyone geared up and then waiting only a few moments before we had our first Copper Shark show face. This was a real little cutie, and we gushed over her for a bit before getting to see some larger members of the species. These gorgeous golden creatures really gave us the show of a lifetime, sticking their snouts out the water occasionally and giving us some nice, close passes just in front of our cage. We were hardly ever without these cartilaginous beauties and the action just kept coming. In addition to the Bronze Whaler Sharks, we also got to see 2 large Short Tailed Stingrays who surfaced to see what all the fuss was about. They investigated the bait a couple of times before heading back to the deep. Though, the absolute highlight of the tour must have been having the Bronzies breach not once but 3 times!! The first breach caught us by surprise, but a few were lucky to catch the second where the shark twirled like a ballerina before plunging back into the Atlantic, leaving us in awe!
For our second trip we had a bumpy trip back to our dive site. But we saw our first copper sharks before we even had the cage next to the boat. Our divers got into their wetsuits and jumped into the cage as the coppers gave them a beautiful show. One of the copper sharks didn’t fancy fish today, and tried to go for one of the many seagulls instead. Unfortunately no “winner, winner, chicken dinner” for him. Then a large shadow passed underneath our boat, and very suddenly a 4m white shark reared his/her head up and splashed our divers in the cage. Our divers were ecstatic, but the white shark only came by for two passes before disappearing into the murky waters of the Shallows. However, our guests were treated to a breaching southern right whale and an African Penguin checking our Slashfin from a distance. Overall our guests were incredibly happy with the diversity and action happening in the area, and after having some soup and bread at the Great White House, left feeling very content.
