Sightings: Great White shark, Bronze whalers, Cape fur seal, Short-tail stingray

Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: Moderate

Visibility: Moderate

And another stunning day with Marine Dynamics! We launched in the morning with lots of sunshine and calm waters. Even though it got overcast in a matter of minutes as soon as we reached our anchor spot we were compensated with some beautiful sightings. We started off with a couple of Bronze whalers, hanging around our boat until a star of the trip showed up – a White shark, a 3m male, the same shark that we saw yesterday, was very active and stayed with us for a long time. We also were lucky enough to witness a short-tail stingray and a couple of cape fur seal. Playing in front of the cage. Happy and satisfied we came back to the Great White House to enjoy our traditional soup and bread and a special treat for the Mother’s day – homemade cookies.

For our second trip of the day we arrived at our cage and the same male was waiting for us as we attached the cage to the side of the boat. With only a small group on this trip we got everyone geared up into their suits and straight into the cage. We had some awesome visibility this afternoon and calm seas, so our divers got to witness this male in all his beauty. We had som copper sharks coming and going through this trip as well and even a breaching shark mid way through the trip! The great white stuck around for the whole trip which was lucky for everyone on board! With some very happy divers we headed back to the harbour.

If you are looking to get up close and personal with the great white shark then Shark Diving in South Africa, and more specifically with Marine Dynamics, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you won’t want to miss.
