Location: Joubertsdam

Depth: 8.9m
Visibility: 0.5m
Number of Sharks: 2
Conditions: Clearing rain, rolling swells with a low wind.
A wet and wild start to the weekend, Slashfin saw a late launch today in hopes of missing some of the rain and giving time for the swell to lessen. Once on anchor the rain held off for the rest of the trip and we had a surprise first sighting as one of the current juvenile females came straight up to the surface quickly followed by the largest shark we are seeing in the bay currently, “Scarlett”.
The arrival of “Scarlett” saw the smaller female disappear and “Scarlett” herself made a few passes before going deep. She made two more appearances during the trip including an amazing vertical approach, slowly swimming up from the depths before breaking the surface and giving us all a stunning view of this shark.
“Scarlett” is one of Marine Dynamics Iconic White sharks. We have been able to identify this shark for four years now and have seen her grow, seen her sustain extensive injuries from what is believed to be another White shark, seen those injuries heal quickly and scars fade, and become part of DICT studies involving behaviour, genetics and toxicology.

If you are looking to get up close and personal with the great white shark then Great White Shark Diving in South Africa, and more specifically with Marine Dynamics, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you won’t want to miss.
