Location: Gansbaai, South Africa
Dive site: Joubertsdam
Water temp: Moderate
Visibility: Good
Sightings: Bronze whaler sharks, Short-tail stingray, Cape fur seals, Common dolphins, Indian Ocean humpback dolphins + Bottlenose dolphins
Summary: What a day! The bay offered us nothing short of incredible sightings. The first departure of the day led us into the bay of Kleinbaai, where the first encounter was an impressive pod of Common dolphins passing the vessel and actively playing in the wake. On anchor, the Bronze whaler sharks kept us company, with divers enjoying up close sightings of the sharks, as well as the impressively sized Short-tail stingray! Cape fur seals also joined the action, investigating the cage and surrounding waters. Departing to return to the harbour, a smaller pod of the lesser sighted Bottlenose dolphins, with a small calf in tow. The second trip also had great sightings of the Bronze whaler sharks and Short-tail stingray. A scenic coastal route to the harbour offered an encounter with a third dolphin species, the endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphin, wrapping up the sightings for the day. An unforgettable time on board Slashfin, thank you to everyone who joined us!
