A beautiful sunrise launch followed by some superb shark sightings, we were in luck this morning! The first sharks to arrive the crew and I did not recognise. Often we see the same sharks over a series of weeks and these seemed to be new fins to us. A familiar 4.5m male with a notch in the top of his dorsal then showed up and stole the show. Max and Tom Morris from the UK named two of our male white sharks ‘Bob’ and ‘Norburt’ and assisted me in identifying other sharks after they climbed out of the cage with dad. Tom is interested in becoming a Marine biologist when he’s older! We also had a lovely couple from the South of the UK who had been to Guadeloupe island off Mexico to dive with white sharks in 2005, it was very interesting to hear their comparisons and see their pics. A lovely group of people plenty of opportunities to dive multiple times and some awesome sharks, a great trip all round!
Once lucky again, just arrived at the dive site and finished getting changed into the wetsuits we saw the first great white shark. We had white sharks constantly during the trip. We spotted eight different individuals around the cage. Some of them were staying close to the vessel for a while other just passed us once.
On the third trip we saw nine different sharks. After great activity and towards the end of the trip a big female appeared. She had a satellite tag on her dorsal fin, we haven’t seen this one in the last few weeks. It’s always nice to see some new individuals come into the bay. She kept passing slowly in front of the cage but also actively going for the decoy and bait.
