Date: 11-06-2015
Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 14.7C
Depth: 8.2m
Visibility: 3m
Number of Sharks: 18
Conditions: Misty in the morning but we got more sun as the day progressed. There
was very little wind.
Walking down to the harbor we noticed it was going to be a foggy morning. As there was only very little wind it took some time for the fog to clear up but when it fully did it quickly started to warm up. The last few days in Joubertsdam have been a bit slower so we needed a bit more patience for the sharks to move to the boat. Fortunately this was not the case for today’s trip as we spotted our first shark after 5 minutes on anchor! We were very fortunate as this does not happen very often. The visibility in the shallows was great, somewhere around 3m. Shark kept on coming and amongst the first sharks we spotted was Tiger, an impressive 4.4m male. The next shark to show up was Thuli. The shark was named by our crew yesterday as we have been seeing this shark quite frequently. Thuli is a 3.1m female and can be quite active around the boat but it differs from day to day and sometimes from hour to hour! The sharks kept on coming and the visibility got even better over time. Lots of the sharks we spotted were familiar and have names. They included Frownie, Little Nemo, Ingrid, Mark, Vanessa and Lumpy. It’s great to have familiar sharks around as we get to know them better everytime we see them.
