They say that good things come to those that wait and this mornings trip learnt this lesson after it took an hour and a half for a shark to arrive, thankfully it was a lovely morning to spend out on the water! The groups patience paid off with a lovely female just under the 3.0m mark making her appearance and sticking around for the majority of the trip, this female can be identied from the white pigmentation on both sides of her dorsal fin. This morning also saw another individual arrive just before they left back to harbour. The second trip started off with a bang…literally, as we arrived back at out dive site with a mother calf pair of Southern Right whales breaching just infront of the boat, such a lovely surprise that this Biologist didn’t have time to get hold of her camera but hopefully many of our passengers captured the moment! Whilst the whales had our attention a White shark cruised by calling us to action to get the cage ready. This fast appearance of a shark was a welcoming sight after such slow activity over the last fews days. This was the same female from the first trip back again , however this time she did not stick around too long but we were lucky enough to be graced by another White shark soon after she disappeared, a larger male nicknamed “Mini Mike” who was spotted just a few days ago back in the area! “Mike” is easily recognisable by the distinctive notches in his dorsal fin and really is FINtastically active! We also had a Short-tailed stingray glide up and down a few times throughout the trip. A beautiful day in the bay…
