Stunning conditions, sharks right away, and even a stingray. What a wonderful day! Our first trip launched as the sun was rising and we were hopeful that after two days off of sea due to bad weather that we would have a great day. Our hopes were high and they did not disappoint! Before everyone even had their wetsuits on we had our first shark approach the boat. It was a young juvenile that we’ve seen recently at about 1.4 meters long. It came and went throughout the trip, leaving when larger sharks came by. Within the first 10 minutes we had a 3.8 meter female that we know well, and that we call Clampy. She stuck with us for quite some time, slowly cruising by the cage, occasionally going under the boat and sneaking a peak of our divers from behind. Then she snuck up from the depths and startled our decoy handler as she flew out of the water with our seal decoy on her snout! We also had a sneak attack from another white shark, approximately 3.6 meters long. This white shark didn’t stay around long and seemed only interested in showing off for our divers. We had some beautiful sightings of a couple of the copper sharks as well, and also 2 short tailed stingrays. What a great way to start the day!
The second trip of the day started off well with one of the juveniles seen cruising around the cage as we approached. These juvenile White sharks may be small but are sure feisty and showed themselves beautifully to our guests both under water and above. We also had a couple of Bronze Whalers join the shark party before trips end.
The third and final trip followed on from the success of the previous two with a shark seen lurking behind the boat as guests were putting on their wetsuits. This turned out to be a Bronze Whaler but a White shark soon followed. The juveniles from the morning trips were present for this entire trip but a larger female also made her presence known, approximately 3.6m, she really made a lasting impression to those onboard. The Short-tailed stingray, not wanting to miss out at the end of the trip, glided up for a few passes before we headed back to land one last time
