Every now and again we get a perfect day to head out onto sea, and today was one of those days with flat glass like water, a light West wind and clear skies! Not only were the conditions above water nice but the clarity in the area has continued to improve since our recent storm that saw us off the sea for two days and made the water quite murky! Whislt we had sharks very quickly after arriving they were a tad bit on the shy side this morning as they would appear and disappear and repeat again. One of the most exciting things to see this trip was the arrival of a large male, one that looked familiar with a odd shaped scar, much like a lump on his right side towards its’ tail. This was none other than “Big Lumpy” a male shark we have in the database back to 2012 and one we have not logged for some time now. Not only is it fantastic to see this shark back in the area for 2016 but we do associated this animal with our Winter months, so possibly a good indicator of our Winter season starting soon and of course that means a move to the Islands! The second trip headed out this afternoon and we found the bay deserted of other boats leaving Slashfin to enjoy the area to ourselves! We had sharks straight away and the activity seemed to increase this afternoon with many of our morning individuals making reappearance yet becoming a bit more active as the day went on. We also had a nice addition of a juvenile White shark, one we have seen multiple times in the last week, that came in to stir up the large sharks we had circling! We also had a Short-tailed stingray glide from the depths, which the clearing visibility allowed a perfect view of. One point of this trip saw two White sharks and the stingray metres away from each other in front of the cage! A beautiful day to be out on a boat and even better a boat out to watch White sharks…
