Today was a bad day to be a seal! We had multiple natural predations sighted from the boat today on all trips, this means a White shark actively hunting seals, this happens often but it is rare for us to witness it so close to the boat and so many times in one day, the sharks were on point today! The first trip had an early start with the sun rising over the mountains as we launched. We didn’t have long to wait for the sharks to show up on the first trip with a juvenile spotted within moments of arriving however the activity was a bit slow in the beginning. Things started to get interesting when “Mini Nemo” turned up and showed us why he is one of our named sharks with his fast pace and simingly effortless movements. Trip two followed much the same as the first in that sharks were spotted around the boat just after arrival. This trip also had “Mini Nemo” around and one of the other sharks from the first trip, “Poseidon”. This is an Ocearch satellite SPOT tagged individual and whilst it wasn’t active on the first trip only showing up fleetingly it made a come back for the second trip of the day showing its tag off to those on board! The third and final trip of the day arrived back to the Island to see a shark swimming past the boat, this must be a good sign! The divers suited up and the first 8 took the plunge. We had a few passes whilst the first cage bobbed around however towards the end of the cage the activity really pickd up and we started to see some more sharks arrive including the lovely female just under 4.0m we have had around recently with bite marks to her face allowing us to easily distinguish her from the others! It may not have been a good day to be a Cape fur seal but it was definitely a good day to be a White shark cage diving…
