After 2 days off the sea due to the worst cold front in 30 years, we were very curious to see what the ocean held for us today. It was a late start but that did nothing to stifle the chill in the air and it seems as though we have to accept that winter is, indeed, upon us. Luckily winter in this area is synonymous with great shark sightings and today was definite proof of this!

We had our first White Shark within 20 minutes of anchoring and went on to see 8 more of these majestic creatures. We had quite a few very active sharks around today, most of them being a little smaller in size. Our smallest Great White was around 2.5m in length with our largest being one of the last to join us at around 4m in length. This male has been coming around for a couple of days now and is very distinctive with his jet-black coloration and rosy on the leading edge on his dorsal fin.

We also had quite a few animals bearing scars on their faces, which could be indicative of some seal hunting around Dyer Island. Although we are still in the shallows, we might see a movement to the Island pretty soon, especially with all the cold fronts on the way.

Some of the sharks around were definitely characters with one spy hopping for us beautifully at the front of the boat. White sharks are one of very few shark species known to check people out above water and this little guy seemed exceptionally beautiful. She was also very active around the bait and decoy lines, so we hope she sticks around in the bay for some time.

There were definitely also a couple of ambushers in the mix, giving us some stunning views as the leaped from the depths.

After all of these great sights, the cold really started to set in so, with everyone dived and smiling, we made our way back in the direction of warm soup and a toasty gas heater.
