It was a lovely day to be out on the water today with the sun shining and the waters clear with just a bit of a stronger wind to keep things fresh. First thing this morning, before getting started with our cage diving, we dropped off some equipment to test the range in which a listening station can pick up on tags, these tags will at some point this year be attached to White Sharks. Once ready at our dive site we only had a five minute wait before the first shark appeared. This was the first of many as we had a number of individuals arriving at the boat constantly at the start of this trip. It did slow down towards the end but we had some great activity with such sharks as “Little Lumpy” a juvenile female known for her fast and feisty behaviour and the largest shark of the trip and day, a 4.6m female with significant bite scars on the left side of her trunk. The second trip of the day had a bit of a slow start, but patience is key and towards the end of our first cage the activity picked up with the arrival of a 3.5m female that caused a stir and seemed to attract other shark with some more active sharks coming into view soon after. We had two juvenile males we are well acquainted with, and another larger male that has not been seen around the boat but which really made an impression today. The BIG surprise of this trip was the return of the extremely large female that was also seen on the first trip. She slowly made her way up our chum slick, revealing her size as she came closer. This is the time of the year that we generally see these larger sharks, with a number of Whites visiting the boat being over 4.5m size. It looks like the big sharks are coming into the bay to play…
