Conditions: Heavy cloud cover with increasing winds but little swell.
Trip 1
The first trip of the day started off well with sharks around not too long after the boat had arrived in the Shallows. This trip saw a nice mix of sizes with some juveniles as small as 2.6m in length to some truly magnificent sharks around the 4.2m length. Whilst the large ones were nice to see, we were very happy to see two of our recently tagged animals still in the bay and still active around the boat.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day started off quite slow with a decision to move anchor about 30 minutes after arriving back on site. Once anchor was reset the group had their first shark within 15 minutes. This new anchor site proved much more successful with a fantastic number of White sharks appearing including one of our recently acoustically tagged sharks as well as one female “Paisley” that was tagged last December. This trip also saw a curious Short-tailed stingray gliding up from the depths a few times.
Trip 3
The third and final trip of the day was an exclusive for a group visiting from the United States. Once on anchor we had sharks around straight away and the activity continued for the entire trip as more sharks arrived. This trip saw three of our newly acoustically tagged sharks. These three were tagged in September and have been seen around the boats every now and again since. We hope to get some fantastic data on their movements through the area. We also had three very large, impressive females visit us and a juvenile female we know as “3Bird’ made an appearance as well. Some fantastic shark sightings to finish off the day.
