Whilst the weather pretictions for the day were not so nice we headed out early this morning for our first of two trips to a surprisingly nice day on the water. Not only were the conditions relatively favourable the shark activity was fantastic with a shark appearing only five minutes after we oursleves did and it was none other than one of our tagged sharks. This trip then saw shark after shark arrive, many of which were some of the larger animals in the bay at the moment most of which were between the 3.0m – 4.0m length with the largest measuring in at 4.0m in length.
The second and last trip of the day also got off to a great start with the last shark from the first trip spotted as we were anchoring, it approached the boat and circled around, in the end this shark stayed with the boat the entire trip appealing every 20 minutes or so. We also saw two of our tagged animals, a female called “Paisley” fitted with a tag last December and a male nicknamed “Feisty” tagged this September. The largest shark of the day appeared this afternoon, a female over 4.0m in length, dark in colour ande displaying some beautiful behaviour around the cage, an image we are sure many of our guests are unlikely to forget. This trip also saw another species of shark, a Bronze Whaler also known as a Copper shark. An occurance of which we generally only see towards the end of the year when our temperatures are above 17.0’C, whilst this shark did not stick around it was a great addition to a fantastic trip. Furthermore both our trips were treated to the sight of Short-tailed stingrays as they glided up from the depths.
What a perfect day to be a shark cage diver with Marine Dynamics.
