It was great to be back on the water this afternoon after two days off the sea due to bad weather conditions. We are always a bit worried about what the activity and underwater conditions may be like after having such times away from the bay but we always hope and try for the best. We arrived on anchor and within moments our fears were realised as we heard from the surrounding boats that sightings in the Shallows were mininmal and shark activity slow, but we waited patiently in the hope of a glimpse of these magnificent creatures. With a 40 minute wait already passed we had thoughts of moving to a different spot when the call of shark was heard as a large shadow came cruising in. A great shark to start our trip, approximately 4.2m in length he made slow passes by the cage and whilst the clarity of the water was a challenge watching the shark at eye level along the surface gave our divers something to make some noise about. This shark stuck around for the first and second cage before a smaller male made its’ way in and took over, making up for his less impressive size with awe-inspiring leaps and turns! This little shark then left us for the third cage, but no worries, our third shark of the day made an appearance, a sub adult female very dark in colour glided on in with jaws open straight infront of the cage! With just one more cage left we had two sharks come on by, the darker female and a new juvenile arriving late for the trip but none the less welcome. Half way through our trip today a pod of dolphins was spotted in the distance and then again as we were picking up anchor, so on the way back to the harbour we cruised by for a closer look at the animals, which turned out to be a pod of about 20-30 Bottlenose dolphins. A beautiful way to end the day, seeing two out of the Marine big 5!

A Happy Mothers day to all those mums out there, including those Great White sharks that have pups swimming around out there…
