Wakey wakey shark cage divers let’s see if we can make it three days of White shark sightings here in Gansbaai?! The first trip of the day launched with the sun rising, once on anchor things were quite in the bay with multiple boats waiting and hoping for the glimpse of a shark. Excitement levels rose with a large shadow spotted cruising not too far away, unfortunately this shark moved past us and disappeared and whilst activity and sightings were slow in the beginning things did start to pick up with four sharks for our guests to admire, all of which are individuals we have seen over the previous two days including one of the large females, a very highly marked smaller female and the small juvenile male. We also had a Short-tailed stingray gliding to the surface every now and again just to mix things up a little! A beautiful morning out on the water.
The second trip of the day launched in the hopes that they could repeat the success of the first. Nature and wildlife is of course unpredictable and with what has been occurring in Gansbaai over the last few months (see previous blog here) there is an increased uncertainty of what to expect with any trip and the White sharks. Unfortunately, the second trip of the day did not encounter a White shark. We thank those guests on board for their patience and understanding, we truly appreciate it!
The third and final trip of the day launched, an exclusive for three gentlemen who have spent the last 50 days experiencing what Africa has on offer and when in South Africa White shark cage diving is of course top on many people’s list of things to do. These guys were lucky, this was their last day in South Africa and were royally treated to the scarred female we’ve been seeing over the last three days. She gave some fantastic passes and a bit of ariel action also!
Watch this space for more sharky updates over the coming days!
